The Japanese Art of Precision
While many brands outsource manufacturing, TUSA (Tabata Co., Ltd.) remains a bastion of in-house excellence. Founded in Tokyo in 1952 by Kazuo Tabata, the company started with handmade masks in a modest garage. Today, their ISO 9001 certified factories in Japan and Taiwan produce some of the most meticulously engineered equipment on the market.
TUSA’s contribution to diver comfort is legendary. They were the first manufacturer to introduce the Crystal Silicone skirt (with the Liberator mask), transforming the mask from a hard rubber torture device into a comfortable, leak-free seal. For UK divers, this material quality is critical; cold water stiffens inferior silicones, leading to leaks. TUSA masks remain soft and pliable even in 4°C water.
Their innovation extends to propulsion. TUSA fins, utilizing high-grade polyurethane, offer a “snap” and responsiveness that plastic fins cannot match. They are designed to deliver maximum propulsion with minimum fatigue—essential when fighting the tidal currents of the British coast. TUSA represents the quiet confidence of quality; gear that fits perfectly, works effortlessly, and lasts for years.
