Drysuits
Your Primary Environmental Barrier
A drysuit is the single most significant investment a UK diver makes. It is not just clothing; it is a life-support system. It separates you from the Atlantic Ocean, keeping you dry so your insulation layers can keep you warm. We offer a curated selection of suits designed specifically for the abrasive, cold nature of UK waters.
Membrane (Trilaminate) suits are the versatile choice for the active diver.
Because the material offers no inherent buoyancy or thermal value, you can tailor your warmth by changing your undersuit—lightweight for summer, heavy-duty for winter. Alternatively, Crushed Neoprene suits offer streamlined durability and extra warmth, though they are heavier to transport.

From Apeks valves known for their reliability to P-valve ready options for technical diving, our suits are built for performance. Whether you need integrated turbo soles for convenience or neoprene socks with Rock Boots for climbing over slate at inland quarries, we have the configuration to suit your diving style.

Features That Matter in the Real World
We prioritise Front Entry suits with a telescopic torso. This design allows for self-donning, meaning you don’t have to rely on a buddy to zip you up—a massive bonus for the independent diver. We also understand that a broken seal ruins a trip. That’s why many of our suits feature Silicone replacement systems (like Si Tech), allowing you to swap a torn wrist or neck seal at the dive site in minutes.

Undersuits & Base Layers
The Science of Moisture Management
If the drysuit keeps the water out, the undersuit keeps the heat in. But warmth is useless if you are wet from the inside. Sweat is the enemy of the cold-water diver. As soon as you stop moving (during a deco stop, for example), damp fabric cools rapidly, leading to a chill. This is why cotton is the enemy—it absorbs moisture and holds it against the skin.
We advocate a technical layering system. It starts with a base layer, ideally made from Merino wool or high-tech synthetic fibres. These materials are hydrophobic; they actively wick sweat away from your body, keeping your skin dry.

Loft and Compression Resistance
Over the base layer goes the undersuit. We stock industry-leading garments using Thinsulate or Halo 3D technology. The key here is compression resistance. Cheap fleece collapses under the pressure of the water (and the squeeze of the drysuit), losing its insulating properties. Our technical undersuits maintain a layer of air (loft) even at depth.
You can adjust your system for the season: a 100g or 200g suit for summer, stepping up to a 450g heavyweight option for winter. for those pushing the limits of duration and temperature, we also stock active heating solutions like battery-powered heated vests, ensuring your core temperature remains stable to assist with efficient off-gassing and decompression safety.

Wetsuits & Semi-Dry’s
Seasonal Solutions for Summer Seas
Let’s be honest: for year-round UK diving, you need a drysuit. However, for the warmer months (July to September) or for pool training, a high-quality wetsuit or semi-dry is a perfectly valid tool. But don’t bring a tropical 3mm shorty to the North Sea; you will regret it.
For UK waters, the minimum standard is a full-length 5mm or 7mm suit. Our Semi-Dry range represents the pinnacle of wet thermal protection. These suits use thick 7mm neoprene combined with a dry zipper (T-Zip) and advanced internal seals at the neck, wrists, and ankles.

Reducing the Flush
A semi-dry works by letting a tiny amount of water in, which your body heats up. The tight seals prevent this warm water from flushing out and being replaced by cold water. This thermal retention allows for comfortable diving in 12-16°C water.
We prioritise suits with high-stretch neoprene and plush linings to make donning and doffing easier. While they are excellent for shallow recreational dives in the summer or working on skills in the pool, remember: if you are planning deep dives or diving outside of peak summer, look at our Drysuit section. Know your limits, and dress for the worst-case scenario.

Gloves, Hoods & Boots
Protect Your Extremities, Protect Your Life
Numb fingers are not just uncomfortable; they are a liability. If you cannot feel your inflator button or unclip your weight belt due to the cold, you are in a dangerous situation. In UK waters, protecting your extremities is critical for both comfort and dexterity.
Our hood selection ranges from standard 5mm to thick 10mm neoprene. Crucially, we stock vented hoods. Without a vent, air from your regulator exhaust can get trapped in the top of your hood, creating an uncomfortable bubble or even altering your buoyancy. We also recommend bibbed hoods that tuck under your drysuit neck seal for maximum thermal overlap.

The Dexterity Trade-Off
For hands, the choice is between wet and dry. We stock pre-bent, Kevlar-reinforced semi-dry gloves (3mm and 5mm) that offer excellent grip. However, for winter or technical diving, a Dry Glove Ring System (such as Kubi or Antares) is the gold standard. These systems lock onto your drysuit wrist seals, allowing you to wear a fleece thermal liner underneath, keeping your hands completely dry and warm without sacrificing tactile feedback.
Finally, don’t neglect your feet. Our heavy-duty rock boots are designed to protect your drysuit socks from the sharp shingle of the south coast and provide the ankle support needed when hiking with a twinset on your back.

Changing & Comfort
Winning the Battle Against the Surface Interval
In the UK, the dive isn’t over when you hit the surface; it’s over when you are dry, warm, and holding a cup of tea. The most dangerous part of a British dive often isn’t the water itself, but the infamous “Car Park Change.” Standing on the cold concrete of a harbour side in driving rain with a biting wind chill is a recipe for hypothermia.
At UK Dive Store, we know that thermal recovery is just as important as the dive itself. If you let your core temperature plummet after a dive (a phenomenon known as the after-drop), you stress your body and increase fatigue. Our range of changing robes is the ultimate solution. These aren’t just towels; they are technical garments with weather-resistant outer shells and moisture-wicking fleece linings. They block the wind immediately, dry you instantly, and provide the modesty required to change out of your undersuit in a busy public car park without flashing the locals.

Harbour Side Logistics
Comfort is about the details. We stock rugged changing mats to keep your neoprene socks off the grit, oil, and sharp stones found in typical dive sites. We also emphasise the importance of head warmth. A wet head loses heat rapidly, so pulling on a neoprene beanie immediately after removing your hood is essential for regulating body temperature.
From heavy-duty drybags to protect your car seats to windproof fleece jackets, our changing gear ensures that your surface interval is a time of rest, not a survival situation.
